House Work: Help from the Chaseys

Last weekend, we were thrilled to have the Chasey’s visit to see our new house for the first time and to lend their hands at some of the work to be done before construction began. We were so busy we didn’t take any pictures! Since the construction has now started upstairs, and after seeing how YHL documented their room transformations, we decided we’re going to wait until we’re done with rooms to show before and after pictures…we’re all about the dramatic effect.

Here’s what we accomplished last weekend:

  • Finished caulking and painting all of the trim in all of the rooms – baseboards, window/door trim, wainscoting and crown molding. (We still have the doors to paint as well as the trim in the hallway, but we figured we’ll wait until the contractors are done in that area.)
  • Purchased, hauled and set up a 12′x7′ shelving unit for $100 from a liquidation sale across the street from our apartment for the garage. We’re what you would call “organization freaks” so the idea of having space to organize our Sterilite bins (yes, they all match) is music to our ears. Plus, $100 is a great price for such a large, sturdy piece.
  • Removed the “bar” from the basement.
  • Unloaded items the Chaseys brought for us from Ft. Wayne.
  • Painted and installed new light fixtures in the kitchen! I wanted to have a finished room so badly! Ok, ok…here’s a sneak peak:

There’s still lots to do. Plus, we have to actually move…soon. Which means we have to start packing…really soon. But, it felt good to accomplish so much last weekend.

My mom wrote me an e-mail today that said how some people take years to get their home in order the way we’re attempting to in less than three months. Hopefully, we can succeed in what we’ve undertaken!

Heather, you are looking good. Enjoy each day as you prepare for your move and the coming of the baby. I can not give you any advice because you and Ross are doing everything right. Good Luck, Love Nana
