A Friend’s Back Room Part 2

A few months ago, I mentioned that I was helping a friend add a little bit of serenity to her family room. We recently finished a few projects.

Sally chose a really great block print fabric that went well with all of the brown furniture she currently owns as well as the beige walls. It even coordinated with the mint walls in her adjoining kitchen. We scored a great deal on the fabric, too, thanks to one of JoAnn’s amazing 50% off coupons.

My first project with the fabric was to dress up the sheers from IKEA we bought for $9.99 a pair. I added 18″ of the fabric at the bottom to give it a little interest. I also snipped off the fabric tabs at the top to use the rod pocket instead.

I used the feature fabric for two pillows (one is on a chair, not pictured) and had some fun with the other two. Who doesn’t love ruffle pillows?!

Here you can see the same fabric in the kitchen. I was so happy to find something that could tie the two rooms together.

The mantel and shelves are looking great thanks to a little de-cluttering, neutral baskets, and these magazine boxes (they’re hiding mis-matched photo albums).

Sally’s been picking up items that coordinate with her new color scheme. I love the bright blue bowl (on clearance at Target). I got a few of these for myself this past weekend!

Such a cute little nook, huh?

We have a few other ideas to implement. For now, though, we think the room is really shaping up!

  1. Hi Heather,

Have you done a tutorial on the ruffle pillows yet? If not, I’d love to see one. I need some ruffle pillows in my life!

  2. Yeah! I looked back at your “before” pictures and I’m so happy with what you’ve done so far. Now, for my five kids to grow older and not destroy all that serenity….
